Research
Our research has the vocation to provide leading insights in international arts sector analytics, encompassing rigorous impact assessments, empirical analysis of sector trends and applied theoretical research.
Novalis studies current and emerging economic issues facing the arts sector, focusing on ideas to achieve broad-based audience development, sustained funding sources, sound public policies, and opportunities to develop the socio-economic values provided by the arts. We aim to increase the public understanding of how the arts sector operates, the values it brings, and what can be done to ensure its sustained development.
Audience Engagement
Providing opportunities for the population to engage with the arts is a major scope for the development of a nation’s cultural identity and values, allowing the evolution of societal perspectives and broadening connections between communities. Our research aims at identifying how arts organisation develop their programs to engage with their audiences and the methodologies to assess how artistic delivery operates based on different visions and practices.
Funding Support
Financial support in the arts is a central topic of debate in the context of government and corporate investment. The relationship between the arts sector and sources of financial support is key in understanding of how organisations form their business operations to sustain their activities. Novalis aims to assess the ways in which funding appropriations drive the creation of artistic activities and help in developing sustained access to sources of funding.
Public Policy
Developing the concept of the arts as a public good is central in ensuring secure policies aimed at its development. The arts sector is a singular industry and Novalis helps in assessing how government structures are organised internationally to ensure sustained investment in the creation of artistic work. We analyse the design and implementation of national frameworks defining the allocation of public funding and the scopes for future policy improvements. We work to provide government agencies with the ways in securing rigorous knowledge of national arts sector dynamics and measuring the impact of public policies on artistic environments.
Novalis is an independent center of research specialised in performing arts trends and policies. Novalis Research helps artistic companies, policymakers, advocates, and the public understand the composition of the arts sector, its place in the modern economy and the scopes for its development.
